Sidewall, Daisy

This is a sidewall. It was designed by William Morris and manufactured by Jeffrey & Company. It is dated 1862 and we acquired it in 1935. Its medium is block-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

This small, square doily, with long fringes on all sides, has an ivory linen warp (top and bottom fringe) and a gray-green silk weft (left and right fringe). A reclined figure sitting in a bed of leaves dressed as a daisy with long-stemmed daisies surrounding , and the word DAISY in the upper right corner, all appearing in ivory on a gray-green ground. Along the edge of the doily is a frame made of repeated curved leaves and dots.
