Sample Book (France)

This is a Sample book. It was company: T. Th. Clerc fils & Cie.. It is dated late 18th–early 19th century and we acquired it in 1936. Its medium is medium (samples): wool, cotton. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This sample book contains a soft woolen fabric known as "duvetyn," a designation derived from the French word "duvet," or down. The high-quality duvetyns found in this book were intended for men's waistcoats; lesser grades of duvetyn were used for dresses and coats.

This object was donated by Mrs. Montgomery Hare. It is credited Gift of Mrs. Montgomery Hare.
