Sidewall, Garden Baskets

This is a sidewall. It was designed by Ilonka Karasz and made by Katzenbach and Warren, Inc.. It is dated 1950–52 and we acquired it in 1952. Its medium is screen-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

One of a few Karasz wallpapers printed in colors this design features a summer bounty of fruit, vegetables, and herbs. The different elements are rendered without perspective so as not to belie the flat nature of the wall. A signature of her drawing style are the delicate textures created to denote the woven surfaces of the baskets and veining of the foliage.

This object was donated by Katzenbach and Warren, Inc.. It is credited Gift of Katzenbach and Warren, Inc..

Its dimensions are

54 x 76 cm (21 1/4 x 29 15/16 in.)

It is inscribed

Printed in selvedge: "Katzenbach & Warren, Inc." and "Garden Baskets".
