Textile (England)

This is a Textile. It was probably Harry Napper. It is dated 1898 and we acquired it in 1960. Its medium is cotton and its technique is duplex printed by engraved roller on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

In 1880, Arthur Silver founded London’s Silver Studio to meet consumer demand for modern designs in textiles and wallcoverings. The firm’s popular patterns sold through the department store Liberty & Co. This lotus and poppy design in a cool palette of greens and blues is typical of the firm’s Japanese-inspired imagery. Silver was a collector of Japanese objects and a member of the Japan Society of the United Kingdom.

This object was donated by Sarah Frantz. It is credited Gift of Sarah Frantz.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 184.8 x 80 cm (72 3/4 x 31 1/2 in.)
