Bowl (Syria)

This is a bowl. It is dated 1st century A.D. and we acquired it in 1961. Its medium is mold-pressed and tooled glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

The clarity of form and iridescent beauty of the material make this early example of Roman blown and tooled glass comparable to twentieth-century works conceived in the spirit of Modernism.

This object was donated by Mrs. Leo Wallerstein. It is credited Gift of Mrs. Leo Wallerstein.
