Jar With Lid (USA), ca. 1900

This is a Jar with Lid. It was produced by Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company and the design director was Louis Comfort Tiffany. It is dated ca. 1900 and we acquired it in 1966. Its medium is mold-blown favrile glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Patented in 1894, Tiffany’s Favrile glass is striking when used to produce Art Nouveau forms like this jar with lid. An engraved band of cherries and leaves encircles the mid-section attesting to Louis Comfort Tiffany’s abiding interest in forms from nature.

This object was bequest of Joseph L. Morris. It is credited Bequest of Joseph L. Morris.
