Dressing Table And Bench (USA)

This is a Dressing Table and Bench. It was retailed by Lord & Taylor. It is dated ca. 1929 and we acquired it in 1969. Its medium is lacquered joined wood, mirrored glass, metal. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Art Deco – or French modern, as the style was called in New York – was enthusiastically promoted by the city’s leading department stores. The style was known for its bold colors, strong lines, and overall modern appearance. This red-orange-lacquered suite features a color, sometimes known as “Chinese red,” that helped popularize this American variant of a French design in mixed woods by Léon Jallot.

It is credited Gift of James M. Osborn.
