Tapis (skirt) (Indonesia)

This is a Tapis (skirt). It is dated late 19th century and we acquired it in 1976. Its medium is silk and cotton embroidery on silk foundation and its technique is warp-faced plain weave with tied resist patterning in warp (ikat); discontinuous supplementary weft patterning (brocade); and embroidery in split and surface satin stitches. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Charles F. Iklé. It is credited Gift of Charles Iklé.
