Recto, in graphite, upper right corner: (inscribed in circle) 90 / 103; at bottom right: Iron Door or Gate - Bargello staircase / under arch in staircase / Florence November 17 -88. Inscriptions for the marginalia beginning at top right: rosette / 1/2 size; nail head / 1/2 size; same as below; side of bracket; section of diagonal; all the plain nail heads are hammered / showing plainly the strokes of hammer / Many are grotesque heads very rough / but suggestive -; scale of door = 1/16 execution; the section of ironwork of gothic circle is not round/ it is square; section of [arrow pointing to bottom of door].
