This is a Drawing. It was created by Frederick Crace. It is dated ca. 1801–04 and we acquired it in 1948. Its medium is pen and black ink, brush and watercolor on white wove paper . It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

From their modest beginnings as upholsters, the Crace family rose to become one of the most important decorating firms in the nineteenth century. Frederick Crace designed interiors for the Brighton Pavilion, the seaside residence of the future King George I. This drawing of a tented alcove was produced during an early phase of decoration, between 1801 and 1804. Crace returned to work on the pavilion in 1815, during the period of extensive remodeling under John Nash.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Mrs. John Innes Kane.
