Stemmed Sherbet Dish (USA)
This is a Stemmed sherbet dish. It was designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and made by Louis Comfort Tiffany. It is dated ca. 1905 and we acquired it in 1948. Its medium is favrile glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Patented in 1894, Favrile glass is one of Tiffany’s lasting legacies. Tiffany used this iridescent glass in many of his stained glass works and also created individual pieces made entirely from the material, as seen here. This stemmed sherbet dish, designed and made by Tiffany, features an engraved band of symmetrical vintage motifs along the inside upper margin, associating the piece with food and placement on the table.
