What is this?

White rectangular table mat with machine-embroidered picture of a shepherd in a pastoral landscape, surrounded by floral medallions, floral garlands, and a border of needle lace.

This is a table cover from Switzerland. It is dated 20th century and we acquired it in 1981. Bequest of Gertrude M. Oppenheimer.
