Drawing, Design for Scooter

This is a Drawing. It was drafted by Earl E. Hoyt Jr. and from the office of Donald Deskey Associates. It is dated 1963 and we acquired it in 1988. Its medium is black crayon, yellow and gray marker, graphite, brush and white gouache on tracing paper laid down on gray wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

This metal walking assist has a metal structure and frame reminiscent to a folded bicycle with three same-sized bicycle wheels. The wheels are arranged like a tripod: two in the back and sides and one front, central wheel. They are connected by a light gray U-shaped frame with three tiers of U to connect the side wheels and front wheel. Above the frame is a smaller black t-shaped frame to attach the grip and steering component, comprising of two turquoise vertical handlebars with a brake on one hand, sitting on upward curved gray metal mounts.

Black wheelchair with extra wheel in front. Chair is covered in a black nylon material with arms curving down on each side of the wheel. Under the chair is a rod attached to a third wheel. Wheel is between the foot holders.

A transportation device fabricated in aluminum and carbon composite and painted in bright shiny red paint with a white seat, black matt handbrakes, both circular rearview mirrors, floor mat, both tires and double kickstand are all black. There is a substantial silver hinge located on the center of the foot area enabling the scooter to fold the scooter. There is one headlight centered on the front body/fender. The manufacturer’s name “MOVEO” is inscribed in white small letters below the headlight and in larger letters on the back body covering the tire. The M and E in “MOVEO” have rounded edges where right angles usually are formed. The Scooter is photographed against a stark white ground and faces left.
