Chippendale Chair

This is a chair. It was designed by Robert Venturi and manufactured by Knoll International. It is dated 1984 and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is molded and laminated plywood, wool upholstery. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Production of Robert Venturi’s Chippendale chair with Grandmother upholstery ended in 1991, the year in which this example was acquired by the museum. The chair’s association with both a well known architect and with textiles makes it an object of interest for the museum’s collection.

This object was donated by Knoll Textiles. It is credited Gift of Knoll International.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 96 x 64.4 x 61 cm (37 13/16 x 25 3/8 x 24 in.)
