Poster, The Guggenheim Museum

This is a Poster. It is dated 1969 and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

The distinctive architecture of The Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, serves as the basis for Malcom Grear’s series of posters he completed for the institution from 1970-1990. Adapting the circular, sweeping bands of the structure, form and counterform are emphasized. The graphic representation of the building is rendered in white, set on a colored background, as foreground and background interact to lend a sense of motion to the piece.

It is credited Gift of Malcom Grear.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 83.7 × 55.9 cm (32 15/16 in. × 22 in.)

It is inscribed

Imprinted in white ink across lower recto: The Guggenheim Museum; at LL margin: MALCOM GREAR DESIGNERS PRINTED IN THE UNITED STATES
