Poster, Cloud Hands, Center for Tai Chi Ch'uan

This is a Poster. It is dated 20th century and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is offset lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

A character in Chinese script is used not as text, but as an organizing feature of this poster designed by Joseph Michael Essex while director of design for Burson-Marsteller Word Wide, announcing a new dance and meditation center. The character is enlarged; small paragraphs of text and images are then arranged within the brush strokes of the script. Essex has been known to include visual puns in his designs, where symbols can frequently have multiple meanings or suggest many meanings.

It is credited Gift of Joseph M. Essex.

Its dimensions are

71.2 x 35.7 cm (28 1/16 x 14 1/16 in.)

It is inscribed

Imprinted in black ink, center right margin: SX
