Textile, Louis XVI restaurateur de la liberte

This is a Textile. It was company: Oberkampf & Cie. and designed by Jean-Baptiste Huët. It is dated 1789 and we acquired it in 1995. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed by engraved plate on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

Its dimensions are

A. Warp: 126 cm (49 3/4 in.) Weft: 121 cm (47 1/2 in.). Weft is three pieces sewn together. B. Warp: 84 cm (33 in.). Weft: 98 cm (38 1/2 in.). Both selvedges present. Pattern: height of repeat and printing plate in both A and B: 100 cm (39 1/4 in.). Width of printing plate: 92 cm (336 1/4 in.). There is no repeat across individual widths of fabric but pattern is designed so that separate lengths form a half-drop repeat when sewn together correctly.
