Sunflower was produced by The Alpha Workshops, Inc. Dedicated to creating beauty and changing lives, The Alpha Workshops is the nation’s only non-profit organization providing creative HIV-positive individuals with industry-specific training and employment in the decorative arts. The organization was founded in 1995 in the Chelsea area of Manhattan and is modeled on the famed Omega Workshops, the Wiener Werkstätte, the Bauhaus, and the American Arts and Crafts movement. Wallpapers by The Alpha Workshops have been featured in Elle Décor, House Beautiful, and Country Living magazines. Members of Alpha staff carve the blocks and print the papers in their studio. Many of the designs are printed on hand painted backgrounds. This design is a contemporary example of early hand printing techniques. The paper also further illustrates the trend toward bolder colors and stronger pattern. The proposed acquisition of Sunflower, together with another Alpha paper, Infinity, would contribute to our collection of contemporary wallpapers.
