Marrow Scoop (England)

This is a Marrow scoop. It was made by William Fearn. It is dated 1792 and we acquired it in 2005. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It is credited Museum purchase from General Acquisitions Endowment.

hallmarks GS over WF for George Smith and William Fearn, lion passant for sterling silver, crowned leopard's head ( crown partially effaced)for London, date letter 'r' for 1792, George III head duty mark

It is inscribed

engraved with a crest of a male torso blowing a horn
