What is this?

Sabre-shaped blade with plain bolster. Octagonal silver ferrule. Agate handle, octagonal in section, tapering towards the top.

This is a knife from Netherlands. It is dated ca. 1750 and we acquired it in 1985. The Robert L. Metzenberg Collection, gift of Eleanor L. Metzenberg.
