Textile, Countryside Mural

This is a Textile. It was designed by Elenhank and made by Elenhank. It is dated 1975 and we acquired it in 1985. Its medium is linen and its technique is screen printed. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Eleanor Kluck and Henry C. Kluck. It is credited Gift of Henry C. and Eleanor Kluck.

Photograph of a lightweight, conical tower structure that gradually tapers off towards the top. The tower consists of a skeleton of interwoven horizontal circles and diagonal lines in a material that appears to be bamboo, lined on the inside with an orange polyester-like mesh. From the lower third of the tower, a circular orange canopy expands to form a shaded roof around the tower. The tower and canopy are fixed to the ground with equidistant poles and ropes. The tower stands in a savannah-like environment with sparse trees and a cloudy blue sky in the background. Although the ground is covered with grass, in some areas the reddish soil is visible. In the background, around 60-80 people dressed in colorful casual western clothes stand close to the tower, while approximately 20-40 people dressed in white clothing (similar to the traditional clothing of Ethiopia) sit on the ground.

An amber-colored vase with circular base. Above the stem, the vase begins narrowly and becomes steadily wider until it reaches the top. The base and bottom third are a dark amber, The top two thirds are a lighter variety of white and cream. Trees grow upward from the dark amber bottom and pierece the light and yellow sky at the top.

A tall glass vase with flared concave sides, thick rounded rim, and rounded bottom. The vase is painted with a landscape of delicate white and black birch trees. The vivid green lawn is bounded at the far end with a line of sparse dark green bushes along a body of pale green-grey water. Horizontal blue-grey lines beneath the distant blue-grey trees beyond suggest reflections. The pale grey-blue sky above is spotted with pink. At the rim of the vase, the trees painted on the reverse side are visible through the glass.
