Upon graduating in 1984 from Pasadena’s Art Center College of Design, Méndez taught first at her alma mater and then in the Design Media Arts Department at UCLA where she is presently working. In 1996 she also opened Rebeca Méndez Studio in partnership with her husband Adam Eeuwens. She specializes in film and video installations for cultural programs and institutions, collaborations with architects on interior commissions, photography, book design, and public art commissions. Poster, Environmental Design at Art Center College of Design

A poster with panels of layered imagery, bisected just left of center. At left is a cropped photo of a woman's nude torso, in grey and yellow-green. At right is a photo of medical apparatus in light grey, on a yellow ground. The image of the grey apparatus extends into the woman's torso. Crossing the border between these two areas are two words, 'IDENTIDAD' in light grey sans serif letters within a white rectangle at top, 'EXCESO' in large, blocky grey letters, stretched across the sheet just below center. 'FIG. 1' in small white letters sits below the 'O' of 'EXCESO'. A stylized motif of a 16th century sailing ship is printed in red over the right half of the sheet, with a few ships extending over the left panel. Overlapping Spanish and English text is printed in grey, red, and black at the middle of yellow panel, with the left margin parallel to the border. Sparse text is printed along the upper right edge.
