The Chase Brass and Copper Company was founded in Waterbury, Connecticut, in 1876 by Henry Sabin Chase. The company became one of the largest brass manufacturers in the city and continued to expand throughout the early 20th century, acquiring additional companies for the production of copper. The firm produced consumer and industrial products including buttons, novelties, copper pipe and plumbing supplies. These four metal objects are smoking accessories in a matching set that consist of two identical, circular ashtrays and cylindrical cigarette holder fitted into an concave oval tray. Its metal chrome color is accented with decorative red enamel around the sides of each object. The cigarette holder sits in between the ashtrays and is the tallest object, with a domed top and thin cylindcrical handle. It is mostly red in color on its exterior, with the lid being a silver metal finish, consistent coloring matching to the rest of the set. The ashtrays flank the cigarette holder and are stout, circular containers with hole openings. There is a slight curve upward toward the opening, minus two divits to hold cigarettes in a resting position. The tray, oval and elongated, hold the three vessels with a concave dish surrounded by elevated edge, with a matching red band around the perimeter.
