In the 1800s, P.H. Hanes Tobacco Company was founded by brothers Pleasant and J. Wesley. The brothers split the business and began to develop hosiery, first manufacturing it in 1910. In 1965 the companies merged to become Hanes Corp., which introduced L'eggs in 1972.
