Covered Milk Jug with Chinoiserie Vignettes Milk Jug, ca. 1770

This is a milk jug. It was style of François Boucher and Jacques-Gabriel Huquier and manufactured by Berlin Porcelain Factory. It is dated ca. 1770 and we acquired it in 1938. Its medium is hard paste porcelain, vitreous enamel, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was bequest of Erskine Hewitt. It is credited Bequest of Erskine Hewitt.

H x W x D (a,b: overall): 15.6 × 11.3 × 8.9 cm (6 1/8 × 4 7/16 × 3 1/2 in.) H x W x D (a: jug): 12.8 × 11.3 × 8.9 cm (5 1/16 × 4 7/16 × 3 1/2 in.) H x diam. (b: cover): 2.6 × 5.6 cm (1 in. × 2 3/16 in.)

Underside of jug: [1] scepter, painted in underglaze blue (Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin mark) [2] "K" over "O", impressed underglaze at edge No marks on lid.
