Teapot with Animal-Shaped Spout Teapot

This is a teapot. It was manufactured by Nymphenburg Porzellan. It is dated 1765–1770 and we acquired it in 1949. Its medium is hard paste porcelain, vitreous enamel, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Eleanor and Sarah Hewitt.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D (a,b: overall): 12 × 19 × 12 cm (4 3/4 × 7 1/2 × 4 3/4 in.) H x W x D (a: pot): 10.5 × 19 × 12 cm (4 1/8 × 7 1/2 × 4 3/4 in.) H x diam. (b: lid): 2 × 6.5 cm (13/16 × 2 9/16 in.)

Underside: [1] a shield with criss cross pattern and a circle with three lines within, impressed underglaze (based on Bavarian "Rautenschild") [2] crowned "V" with "KLESSHEIM" in horizontal bar, printed in red, blue, and silver on paper label [3] "NEUBURG / No.191", printed and written on round paper label [4] two lines, incised underglaze Reverse of lid: [1] "NEUBURG / No.191", printed and written on round paper label
