Persephone Cup And Saucer

This is a cup and saucer. It was designed by Eric Ravilious and manufactured by Wedgwood. It is dated ca. 1930–40 and we acquired it in 1991. Its medium is glazed porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Its dimensions are

(a: cup): 5.9 x 7.9 cm (2 5/16 x 3 1/8 in.) (b: saucer): 2 x 11.3 cm (13/16 x 4 7/16 in.)

It has the following markings

On base, in green underglaze (a, b): "PERSEPHONE / DESIGNED BY / RAVILIOUS / OF ETRURIA / WEDGWOOD / MADE IN / ENGLAND / & BARLASTON"; impressed: "WEDGWOOD / 6M54"; "6" in black, leaf motif stamp, "111".
