Staircase Model (France), late 19th century
This is a Staircase model. It is dated late 19th century and we acquired it in 2007. Its medium is planed, joined, and veneered cherry, walnut. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Although called “in the English style” in France, this model is at least a work of acceptance—if not a masterwork—in compagnonnage. It shows a complex, self-supporting multiple spiral, with veneering on the underside of the stairs.
