Temptation Brooch, 2013

This is a brooch. It was designed by Donald Friedlich. It is dated 2013 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is cast, ground, sandblasted, acid etched and polished glass, anodized niobium, cast and laser welded gold, fabricated silver and gold (setting). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Utilizing the expressive range of glass, Friedlich’s Temptation Brooch combines vibrant red glass and gold, to recreate Eve’s apple. Part of Friedlich’s Organic Series, this brooch represents his efforts to reveal the beauty and elegance of commonplace objects in a new light.

This object was donated by Susan Lewin. It is credited The Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
