Book Illustration

This is a Book Illustration. It was designed by Michelangelo Pergolesi. It is a part of the Smithsonian Libraries department.

Pergolesi was a decorative artist, silversmith, engraver, and watercolorist who designed a wide range of objects, as the title of this collection of his designs suggests. His work is consistently noted for his delicate hand and lovely lines that flow continuously from figure to arabesque to figure. One of his favorite design motifs was the griffin, a mythological creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion.

It is credited Collection of Smithsonian Institution Libraries.
