Mac Arthur Airport, located in Ronkonkoma, Long Island, was built in 1942, shortly after the United States entered World War II. Originally named Isliip Airport, it was renamed in honor of Douglas MacArthur (1880-1964), General, United States Army. Donald Deskey's proposal for a monorail was never built. From time to time since then, the monorail idea has resurfaced in the context of commercial development.

At left, inverted, angular U-shaped structure supports monorail, which extends diagonally across the plane, from which vehicle is suspended. Vehicle is oblong with wide fins on either side at rear, large glass windows above, and several circular and rectangular hatches below. Left wing inscribed with “10”. Design for bathroom interior of prefabricated fiberglass house. Interior perspective shows bathroom with double vanity with in brown and orange at left; counter angles rightward, becoming a shallow ledge below what could be a square wall mirror and a series of shelves with rolling cabinet fronts over toilet at center. Toilet, like vanity, floats out from wall. To the right of the toilet, length of wall decorated with stylized oblong honeycomb-and-circle pattern, possibly extrusion molded. To the right of this panel is a walk-in shower without visible hardware. Further to the right is a stack of cabinets and storage space, which abuts an interior garden bed with succulent plants and trees. Floor pavement is alternating stripes of smooth light orange material and darker orange tiles.

Design for solar energy exhibit. Interior perspective shows open-plan exhibition space with curving ramp, at rear, providing access to mezzanine level. Interior architecture is white, International Style, with white pavement and brown-black walls and ceiling. At center, large installation of teal- and rust-colored panels with information plaques at angle on ground. At center in background, floor-to-ceiling installation of orange and yellow material or light that meets rectangular yellow plan on ceiling (nearby, a similar red and black panel). At left, wall obscured by additional teal-blue panel, and a satellite seems to be suspended from ceiling; in midground, a satellite dish is propped up for display. At right, under the mezzanine, various exhibit display panels—in various hues of red, orange, teal, yellow, and black, some with text and some without—are supported by linear tubing system. Human figures populate the scene throughout. Signed in pen and ink, lower right: DELLER ’60.

Just above, partial sketch of rectangular table in plan, above which is an additional avoid shape surrounded by chairs superimposed over two designs for dining chairs: one with arms and the other without. At center, perspective shows ovoid table seen in lower right resting on two piers with arm chairs at either end. Above, plan indicates that piers are U-shaped. Additional chair designs in plan and perspective found throughout, including at center of torn left edge.

A small vehicle at lower center, somewhere between a tractor and an automobile, tows rectilinear storage bin from left plane. In the distance, at lower right, additional cargo bins can be seen directly below a monorail track, in white, that extends rightward out of the picture plane.

Design for "The American Crisis" diorama for "The Triumph of Man" exhibit at the Travelers Insurance Companies’ Pavilion, New York World's Fair 1964–65. Battlefield landscape framed on either side by damaged tree trunks. In the foreground, rock wall crumbles at left, revealing in its void the dead bodies of three Union solders behind a canon, while at right a Confederate soldier and his horse lay dead. Just before the canon entrenchment, a tattered American flag waves. In the mid- and background, additional soldiers lay dead or dying; at right, a Union officer investigates the body of a Confederate. At right, a lone white house. Signed in brown gouache, lower left: “Gordon Johnson”.

Design for monorail for MacArthur Airport, Long Island, New York. Perspective shows monorail in landscape. At left, stylized H-shaped supports recede into background. Monorail track suspended from supports and extends diagonally across surface. Below the rail, missile-like oblong conveyance with pointed nose is suspended; its wings, of which there are three pairs, jut out at a slight incline from main body. Shallow windows are found at top of vehicle, while below numbers 3, 6, and 5 (circled) alternate with what appear to be cargo hatches across its lower plane. Near nose, fuselage also inscribed with “NXO P3”.

Design for Half Moon Bay Hotel on Montego Bay in Jamaica. Low structure sweeps across width of illustration board: main volume runs almost perpendicular to viewer and has shallow-sloped roof whose over at right supported by wood beams and tresses. From this volume extends a covered carport with similar roof, possibly in glass or other translucent material, and supported by slender inverted tripods. To the left of this, a retaining wall extends to the edge of the picture plane, half-concealing a perpendicular wing with lower, similar roof and no overhang at front. At center, a more interior garden wall with regular, diamond-like apertures. Landscape is lush with sod, shrubbery, palms, and deciduous trees. Circular driveway. Signed “S C Reese” in graphite at lower right.

Design for monorail for MacArthur Airport, Long Island, New York. Perspective drawing of conceptual “monorail” that actually employs two parallel tracks. These are seen extending forward from background (lower left) where three V-shaped supports elevate rail. In foreground, closer depiction of supports shows convex base and greater detail of ladder-like structure of each arm, which terminates at top in broad wings that meet the rail. The conveyance itself is oblong, with rear wings extending from the bottom of fuselage to meet tracks and glide along them. Vehicle appears aerodynamic with low glass windows at top and various hatches across bottom and possibly a conveyer belt at front. At center right, fuselage inscribed with “NOS X5” and “13 44.” Signed “R Heston” at lower right.

Design for the United States pavilion, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce, at the 1960 Thessaloniki International Fair. Exterior perspective shows pavilion situated on corner lot with figures populating surrounding street, sidewalk, and stairway to structure. At center, a blue and green A-frame structure is perched on its corners and supported by white structuring framing. At entrance, “USA” sign supported by poles running from ground to overhanging eave. Beyond the A-frame entry portal, structure is long and low with additional vertical structural supports receding backward; at right, a series of triangular rooves can be seen behind a wall of green and blue alternating panels. Also at right, an angled masonry wall jags up behind a planted bed with retaining wall; form this garden rises a pole with rectangular panels, each with one parabolic-curved outerside edge, in alternating white, blue, and terra cotta. Farther right, Greek and American flags wave with others in the distance. At left, additional flags, including an additional American flag, wave in front of a square gray structure.

Exterior perspective shows pavilion situated on corner lot; figures populate the surrounding streets, sidewalk, and steps leading up to the structure. At right, series of parabolically-curved panels, alternating blue and indigo, project outward from on an off-white background (possibly stucco) with a solid blue panel at far right. To the left, this wall opens up to provide access to pavilion interior, supported by clusters of rods and capped by white and red tent-like roof. A fountain spouts in front of entryway, and Greek and American flags wave to its left. Further left, rectilinear, single-story structure juts out and is adorned with letters spelling “USA” in blue on front and side. This structure appears to extend leftward from the rear, with additional red and white tented area at far left. In the background, modular/International-Style structures rise from behind trees.
