Presentation drawing for the Comte de Rambuteau: At the fountain base, at the center of the main basin, are six nude figures personifying the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and four symbols of maritime fishing industries; these figures sit on prows of ships. Above them (and between the basin tier and the crowning cap) are four genii, between each of which is a dolphin (below) and a swan (above) sending jets of water into the basin tier. At the top of the fountain is a mushroom-shaped cap from which water spills to a basin tier, which in turn spills a profusion of water to the larger main basin at ground level. At the perifery of the fountain are nereid figures, each holding a fish which spouts a jet backwards towards the center of the fountain.

Description: vertical rectangle; four scenes from the story of "Don Quixote," by Miguel de Cervantes; Don Quixote's combat with a wild boar (lower center); Sampson Carrasco, surnamed Knight of the Mirrors, van- quished by Don Quixote, is ordered to prostrate himself before Duclina del Toboso (left); Dulcina's party (upper center); Don Quixote demon- strating his affection for Dulcina (right). Another version of this design was manufactured c. 1785, by Gorgerat of Nantes (trial proof l898-21-17B). This subject was repeated in 1813 by Hem for Oberkampf.

Scenes from the life of Henri IV (1553-1610), King of France, as described in Voltaire's "Henriade": scene 1, upper left: Henri and his friend, Duplessis-Mornay, are seated near the port of Dieppe, conversing with a holy hermit (Canto, lines 229-232); scene 2, upper right: Henri, entering Paris in triumph, is received by his subjects (Canto X, lines 512-514); scene 3, center: Henri in the Battle of Ivry, in which the Duc de Mayenne was defeated and the Earl of Egmont slain (Canto VIII, lines 180-181); scene 4, lower left: before his tent on the battlefield outside Paris, Henri counsels the Chevalier d'Aumale before his duel with Henri, Vicomte de Turenne (Canto X, lines 48-49); scene 5, lower right: Henri taking leave of his mistress, Gabrielle d'Estrees, before the Temple of Love, returns with Mornay to his army (Canto IX, lines 344-348). At the top of the design is the Pont Neuf, and at the bottom, the Pavillon Henri IV of the Louvre, signifying the public works carried out in Paris by the monarch. Elevation of a wall. The center of the design is a chimney with a large mirror above. At the base of the mirror, standing on the mantel, are two statues of a child on a cloud, holding a torch. The mirror is flanked by composite columns with which pilasters on either side of the doorway correspond. Between the columns and the pilasters are two female statues. There is a door opening on either side, at the edges of the sheet. Above the doors, in arched over doors, are reliefs of seated figures among trophies of arms. An entablature separates this section of the wall from an attic. In the attic, at the center, two winged statues with trumpets open a curtain. Decorative panels on either side of this grouping show figures with large oval mirrors/medallions.

Six scenes from the life of Jeanne d'Arc (1412–31) are depicted, her march on Paris (upper left); her arrow wound being dressed during the siege of Paris (upper right); the capture of the Tourelles, which liberated Orléans from the British (lower left); Jeanne praying before the shrine of St. Catherine, symbolizing the Church of St. Catherine-de-Fierboys, where she received her sword (left center); captured with her brothers, she is brought before Philip the Good (center right); and her burning at the stake in Rouen (lower center). On an obliquely-placed stone slab in the scene showing the taking of Orléans is the artist's signature [in ink].

Tall, slim vase with neck and foot consisting of inverted bell shape, on slim round base. The body divided into four registers. Ornamentation consists of floral designs and garlands and, in central area, a figureof Venus. Base is decorated with two griffins flanking a central roundel on which is written: Philippe Girard Par/Brevet/D'Invention.
