Six sketches arranged on vertical sheet. At top left, two sketches of finials: one is a ball mounted with a crescent moon; the other is in the shape of an obelisk. At right, a three-story masonry house with steeply pitched, tiled roof, an elaborate 'trapgevel' façade in the Dutch manner. Above the second story is a date plaque on either end of the façade: ANNO 1623, with the initials of the original owner in the center of the plaque. The upper story was likely added to a three-over-three configuartion of the earlier building at the first and second stories. The upper window is framed by quoins of large blocks with two small, similarly detailed round-arched windows above. Tie rods decorate the upper levels of masonry while the lower half of the façade has a bracketed cornice below the date plaque. To the left of this sketch are two details of the brackets on the same house. They are in full Mannerist strapwork style and are seen both in elevation and from the side. Above this is a small sketch of a cartouche of the shield of Leiden in the form of a lion with yawning mouth sitting upright presenting a shield with crossed keys.

Vertical sheet illustrating a detailed elevation of a three-story house with attic in typical Dutch style. The building is both timber and masonry construction with eclectic elements. The house is set back from the cobbled street visible in the foreground. The ground level consists of two square glazed windows flanking a Dutch door. The upper half of the door is oopen and a woman wearing a cap and a small cat perched on the lower half of the door are visible. The secon level has a row of five round-arched windows framed by quoins. A similar pair of windows flanks a shuttered window opening above. The 'trapgevel' façade likely conceals a steeply pitched roof. Tie rods are visible throughout the masonry sections of the façade.

Vertical sheet torn with bottom half missing, leaving a rough bottom edge. Depicted in center of sheet is a large timber-frame house with a chimney. The house consists of three stories at one corner - the elevation is articulated by projecting stringcourses and terminates in a 'trapgevel' façade. Adjacent at the ground level are two windows, one with a shutter hanging askew from its hinge. At this corner of the house, one section up to the second story has been removed to create a round-arched entrance.

Vertical sheet consisting of six sketches. Beginning at top right are two small sketches of dormers. The upper example is seen from below and covers a shuttered window. The dormer element ends in a three-sided projection with decorative metalwork cresting at the joints topped with a tall finial above. The lower example is viewed from teh front and it has a projecting pyramidal overhang, topped by a spike finial, similar to a lightening rod. Below this is a sketch of the arms of the town of Hoorn: a unicorn with its head turned to its left, rearing up on the legs of a gargoyle clutching in its hooves a shield with curled sides. At bottom right is a sketch of a double gable masonry house, its 'trapgevel' façade punctuated by iron rod ends to support the stones. At left is a small lookout tower seen from below. The side of this structure has three windows, ending in a drop finial. Above left is the Hospital of Hoorn, a tall masonry building with its façade articulated by five levels with stepped ends and scrolling ornament. The window and entrance openings at the ground level are defined by quoins. There is a Palladian window at the center above the entrance flanked by single round-arched windows on either side. There are four smaller quare shuttered openings; the one at the building's far left has a small lantern projecting from a bracket. The window scheme of the upper stories is similar but a triangular pediment is substituted over the windows. The building bears a date plaque of 1563. To the building's far right is a smaller, simpler three-story building bearing a date plaque of 1723.

Vertical sheet depicting a large, eclectically adorned masonry Romanesque structure with later additions. The building's main elevation terminates in a corner, while the rest of the building is rounded toward the rear. Very small timber-frame structures are seen in the foreground. The building's character is in keeping with the Northern Renaissance style: it has a steeply pitched roof culminating in a large, four-sided clocktower with a galleried, octagonal double cupola and tall ornamental finial. The façade's lower elevation consists of a row of blind trefoils, a row of small windows above, and another small blind arcade before the attic story. There are turrets at the façade corners, and another in the center of the façade upon which sits a unicorn bearing the arms of the town of Hoorn. A date plaque above reads 1532-1651 in a banner. Visible at the rear of the building is a rounded façade with blind arcade.

Horizontal sheet bound vertically in album. Study of many windmills in an open, marshy landscape. In the foreground are short grasses. At a further distance in the midground is a large windmill at center right, seen from the side. The mill consists of an octagonal central tower that graduates in diameter until it is capped by a rounded roof from which large blades spin. Two large supports buttress the roof and are anchored into the short story beneath the tower. This tower and another to its right bear a striped flag with three bands of color - the center band is lighter than the upper and lower bands. Similar mills are seen along the horizon.

Vertical sheet depicting on recto a wooden balcony or gallery and circular staircase with balustrade sketched quickly, containing many inscriptions by the artist defining the details which are not fully worked. The horizontal balcony element is supported by a heavy beam, the end post terminating at top and bottom with "cupid faces" as defined by the artist. Below the beam at right is a figural wood corbel that the artist describes as "wooden... / support bar". The newel post at the top of the staircase has "a lion with shield and arms (not so high)"; underneath the newel post opposite to this, presumably hanging from the beam obscured by the staircase, is what the artist describes as "a pendant under this post" in the shape of "a monkey". The staircase is carved along the top edge and has what the artist defines as a "scroll, small french curve" below. The rail is connected to the baseboard by balusters, and consists of three registers: a "leaf" at top, a "scroll" in the middle, and "leaf egg" with a "bead" below. The treads at the bottom of the staircase fan out into a curved bottom stop wider than the rest of the staircase. The artist notes to the right of the bottom newel post "columns .... around it".

Depicted on verso is a small band of scrolls contained in a rectangle; another small sketch of wavy lines framed by beading at top and bottom.

Vertical sheet depicting two sketches drawn at Haarlem. At left is a tall, narrow steeple on top of a square tower. The tower is masonry in an earlier Romanesque or Gothic style, with two louvered lancets visible with a blind arcade above. The tower corners are topped with crockets which are connected by slender (possibly iron) supports. From this base rises an octagonal clock tower in a more fully executed Gothic or late Gothic style. It can be divided into four levels: at the bottom, a flamboyent Gothic tracery opening at each side; above this, another openwork lancet gallery with crockets at the corners; finally, a blind arcade with small cupola surmounted by a crocketed, opework onion dome with spike and ball finial. The other sketch at right, as noted by the artist, is a "balcony or gallery / on the hotel de ville / Haarlem". The rectangular gallery has a small balustrade which supports five Ionic columns upon which sits a deep and heavy cornice. The gallery is supported from below by five scrolling modillions. The artist notes the "modillion" molding "supporting the" cornice's "overhang", and that the columns have "good Ionic proportions".

Vertical sheet illustrating a walkway that leads to a large, pointed arch opening in a massive masonry city gate. Above the entrance is another pointed arch lancet window with four glazed panels. Rusticated quoins define the openings of both arches. At the same height as this window are two turrets with octagonal domes and ball finials. A clock is seen at the top of the façade, and behind it, the steeply pitched roofs of the various towers on the other side of the gate. The gate seems to straddle a water source, as the road rises in the center from the grass alongside, and a road or pathway is raised up on supports perpendicular to the gate.

Vertical sheet with two sketches: above, a Romanesque cathedral tower with noticeable additions. The tower's façade is articulated by three tall lancet window openings with louvers (possibly containing a bell within). A small arcaded tracery balustrade is below. Above the lancets is a broken pediment that projects upward, surmounted by ball finials at the three corners of the pediment. At right is another finial; at left, a short masonry element supporting a flag. This story has a small gallery that projects forward. Beneath these projections are tall, slender masonry supports creating an openwork lancet. The drawing on the lower half of the sheet is a detailed sketch of a Baroque doorway. The doors are framed by an arch with quoins and doric columns supporting a thick cornice. Above each column is a lion facing the other. The façade continues behind them: a broken pediment is raised up ending in a semicircular cap. Large c-scrolls at either side further define the imposing pediment. Behind this is the continuation of a wall with a gallery at right.

Horizontal sheet bound vertically in album. A view of a fleet of warships (man-o-war) which face away from the viewer with the stern of the ships visible. Only the ship at the far left is visible from the side. It and the boat closest to it carry the flag of Great Britain. Many of the ships are concealed from full view by fog or smoke. Recto of vertical sheet with sketches of two sailboats in shallows. The boat in the upper half of the sheet has many of its components fully rendered: the masst, boom with wrapped sail, rigging, rudder, wooden hull and dinghy are all identifiable. The boat's name is written across the side of the ship closest to the bow: IKWEI. The boat in the lower half of the sheet is rendered in less detail and seems further from the viewer. It is very similar to the boat above. A figure stands in the water to the right of the boat.

Verso of sheet has a single sketch of a small rod with holes for adjustment. This is possibly part of a navigational instrument?

Vertical sheet depicting conical masonry tower pierced at intervals by small rectangular window openings, surmounted by a four-armed wood structure meant to catch the wind. This structure moves on a central pivot that seems to anchor to the back of the structure. Below the arms is a walkway that encircles the tower and is visibly supported by timber buttresses from underneath.

Vertical sheet with multiple sketches. At top left, a wood-hulled sailboat is seen in shallow water, viewed from stern. At lower left a running fountain is seen from the left. The fountain consists of a central pedestal which is decorated on the visible side by a dolphin with prominent scales spouting water from its nose and mouth, while its tail is raised vertically to support a smaller bowl above which fills with water from the spout above and dribbles over the rim into the large basin below. The basin has a small, bowl-like projection at the corner, possibly providing water for animals. The final sketch at right is the façade of a late Renaissance building with only its left side visible. The façade consists of a large arched central pediment thrust up in the center and supported by a continuous engaged column. A pendentive-like element sweeps down from the pediment to unite with the lower wing of the façade which is topped by a ball finial. At bottom right, Roman numerals have been sketched: C D D C L X X I X, which are present on a date plaque on the building's façade.
