Search Results

Two major motifs, the larger of which appears on the cover as well as on the box. A lady in flowing white robes of about 1815, seated on a bench beneath a tree, reaches towards a young man who advances proferring a bouquet. The smaller motif, above and below, is a basket of flowers. The paper is pasted on sideways on the box. The ground has small sprigs and dots. The paper is bordered by a vertical twining leaf and chevron design. It appears to be composed of small sheets.

Tall cardboard bandbox covered in wallpaper of geometrical salmon and blue pattern, with brown. Squared, large diamond shapes with seaweed-like fill and symmetrical flower or leaf forms. Inside rim, fragments of two different wallpaper patterns, one salmon on light blue, one blue on yellow. Two wooden bracing strips across bottom.

Yellow background, pink and deep bright pink flowers with touches of white, green leaves: carnations, butterflies, birds, roses in fairly random scattered pattern. Paper on exterior much faded: background appears to be beige with brown and green pattern. Just inside rim, well-preserved, brightly colored pieces. Printed paper label inside lid on yellow paper: "Warranted Nailed/Band Boxes/ Manufactured by/Hannah Davis/ East Jaffrey, NH"

Wooden bandbox covered in wallpaper with pineapple pattern. Coloring of exposed areas much faded, better preserved paper sample with vivid coloring around rim. Turquoise-green background (light blue in exposed areas) with background fill of deep pink dots (white in exposed areas), white trailing leaves and flowers, bold repeating pattern of cluster of three pineapples in white and pinks with green leaves. Lined with newsprint: "Christian Panoply". Paper label inside lid: "Warranted/ Nailed/ Bandboxes/ Made by/ Hannah Davis".

A woman wearing Grecian attire, possibly Nemesis, is racing in a chariot drawn by two griffons. The griffons have the upper body of an eagle and the lower body of a lion. An urn or ewer containing a single flower stem rests on its side beneath the beasts’ feet. Trees frame this vignette. Printed in pink, red and two shades of green on a blue ground.

Foliage framework shades from yellow to orange, bouquet of gray flowers over which a second stencil of fine diagonal lines in white has been used. Background is a bright blue-green. Front design is composed of border of roses, rose-red with off-white high- lights. Bottom of design represents garden from which roses grow. The fieldis blue. Center design- Field is in distemper paints. Dark green in design on reverse side is same as sides of 1913-12-7 and half of cover 1913-45-6. Scene depicts a circular pavillion in partial ruins with broken columns beside it. A boy is fishing in a nearby pool. The setting is a park. The rose design is same as half of cover 1913-45-6.

On light blue ground, slightly deeper blue bandings, vertical, with green pattern of: vertical lines, scrolls and leafy patterns. Over the vertical blue bandings, green pattern with leaves between paired bordering lines giving ribbon-like effect, interrupted by assymetrical lambrequin-like shape of scrolls and flowers with diagonal linear fill and pin-work. Paper covers sized coton reinforcement which is visible at worn edges.

A Chinoiserie design inspired probably from an 18th century one. An Asian figure is seated on a leaf of a floral branch. He is in Oriental costume and is playing a flute. The flowers in proportion are of colossal size. On a slender stem. The colors are peach, yellow and old ivory. Stem - a narrow floral band encircles bottom of box.
