Elaborately carved and painted side chair. Back composed of crossed cornucopia, from which spring almost at right angles griffins and heads, holding between them an umbrella shaped canopy, with foliated stem of trumpet flowers, in false Chinese taste; surface is painted in buff, red, green, and blue. The rounded tapering legs curve inwards in the middle but splay out towards the feet; above the finely tapered feet, are carved acanthus leaves. Top of legs have square capitols carved with acanthus leaves and berries.

Rear legs and squared back frame consist of one piece of tapered, bent beechwood; back is slightly narrower at top than bottom; long, narrow, oval splat framed with bent beechwood and pierced with two columns of fifteen round holes each. Cylindrical front legs. Legs reinforced at seat joint by two carved wooden spheres. Red leather upholstery on seat. Leather-covered studs around perimeter of seat.

Back legs flat-sided, front legs flat excepting rounded front face; legs curve outward towar bottom, and back legs incline toward each other at bottom. Corner posts of back terminate in a double curve with elementary volute form. Flat top rail bowed toward back, slightly arched, with a rectangular panel of inset veneer surrounded by beading. Splat horizontal, composed of small oblong faced with veneer, flanked on either side by horizontal coupled C-scrolls deeply carved with foliage, terminating in volutes. Seat flares from back to front, with straight edges.

Shield-shaped back. The vase shaped openwork vertical splat consists of five curved vertical slats-- the center one is carved with foliage at the base; the branches into three ostrich feathers. Splats on both sides curving outwards meet those on the outside in two rosettes, from which swags of drapery hang. The front legs are moulded and slightly tapered. Front seat rail is serpentine and side rails are bowed slightly. There is a drop in seat covered in silk solid cut stamped cloth velvet.

This chair consists of two pieces of hard wood (seat and back) jointed at the back of the seat. The back tapers slightly and is characterized by leaf-like carvings. A small heart is cut out of the upper, central area of the seat back. The chair's seat is a simple slab of wood. The chair has four legs, each flaring outwards and tapering as they meet the floor.
