Lid decorated with polychrome enamel scene of English-style hunt situated on dirt road in wooded landscape: central female figure wears black waistcoat, long skirt and hat, riding side-saddle on brown horse, flanked by two male riders in red waistcoats and jodphurs, male on left on black horse, male on right on black and white horse, group of riders featured in right background, hunting hounds running beside horses. Central, oval reserve features polychrome enamel decoration with horizontal image of orange, black, and white striped tiger in crouching position, set against a background of green and brown tall grass and pink and blue sky. Reserve surrounded by a red band with inscription "Otto Mönsted's Margarines" in white letters. Elaborate, intertwined, incised monogram "SE" (?) in oval reserve on reverse. Link attached to top of lid. Lid hinged on left. Recessed striker on bottom.

In the form of a rolled and wrapped copy of Scientific American, front of the wrapper enameled with a New York, 1896 postmark and a blue one cent stamp, the reverse enameled with 3 red dots to simulate sealing wax. Wrapper inscribed "Mr. Fred Smyth, 15 West 46th St." Lid (left end of rolled paper) hinged on long, bottom edge. Both left and right ends, where paper appears to be coiled in a roll, likely also intended as strikers.
