Sarong, cap (tjap) printed (using block to apply wax) and filled with canting (tjanting) (hand tool used to apply wax), in two shades of rust red and light blue. Printed with two design elements, to be seen horizontally: two-thirds of cloth (the body or 'badan') has white reserved ground with two repeats of an undulating arborescent branches bearing huge red flowers, blue foliage, and decorative birds. The remaining third (the head or 'kepala' ) has a red ground with large bouquet of grasses, leaves, flowers, several birds, and butterflies (buketan motif) in lighter red and reserved white. Wide scrolling floral bottom border (a North Javanese batik innovation) in reds with comb-teeth edging; top border narrow and stylized. Both selvedges present.

A panel of glazed cotton, resist-printed, probably by a batik method known as cap (tjap) printing (wax resist applied by means of blocks inlaid with copper strips). Design is dark blue, light blue, and white, showing a butterfly hovering over full twining bouquet of flowers ("buketan" motif). Border is floral (a North Javanese batik innovation) with repeat in two shades of blue covering two thirds of piece (the body or 'badan' of the sarong); design on the remaining third (the head or 'kepala' ) is in two shades of blue on dark blue ground. The leaves of flowers and foliage, as well as the wings of butterflies, are filled with small white dots and lines.

Design is dark blue, light blue, and white, showing butterflies and birds in and around a large bouquet of twining flowers ("buketan" motif). Border is floral (a North Javanese batik innovation) with narrow outer edge of minute horizontal stripes. Two thirds of the piece (the body or 'badan') has a dark blue ground covered with white dots like grains of rice; the other third of the design (the head or 'kepala' ) has a plain dark blue ground. The birds, butterflies, and bouquet are in two shades of blue, filled in with white dots and lines.

A panel of glazed cotton, resist-printed, probably by a batik method known as cap (tjap) printing (wax resist applied by means of blocks inlaid with copper strips). Two-thirds of the piece (the body or 'badan') has diagonal bands filled with tiny zigzag striping alternating with bands of curving vines. This densely patterned area differs from the head or 'kepala' of the piece which shows large stems of flowers and butterflies (buketan motif) on a solid dark ground.

Batik sarong with a center field and deep borders at each end, in red, blue and cream. The field shows the "ceplokkan" motif (stylized, star-like flowers symmetrically arranged). The border employs the "tumpal" motif (row of isosceles triangles), flanked by several rows of narrower borders with geometric, diamond or dot forms. Two different narrow borders on the long edges: one with diamond forms and the other with red dots on a cream ground.

Long narrow panel with rectangular field with diagonal lattice framing small flowering pants on a yellow/ochre background: wide border at each end in four sections - each decorated with pendant forms, top and bottom red background and remailing two yellow/ochre on deep purple ground. Continuous outer band framing field and end borders patterned by a repeat of two alternating medallions with floral guard stripe on each side. (MS'72)

Sarong with horizontal repeat of large-scale curving floral spray ("buketan" motif) surrounded by birds and butterflies in black, red, and blue on undyed ground. Narrow black side borders with blue and white floral pattern, one scalloped on inner side (a North Javanese batik innovation) and one straight. The head or 'kepala' of the cloth (broad traverse band with different coloring and pattern than remainder) shows one large floral spray (from horizontal repeat) on black ground. Two plain selvedges on long sides; raw edges on ends.

Long horizontal panel. Three-fourths of the sarong (the body or 'badan') is patterned by isolated floral sprigs on an ivory background, repeating. The remaining fourth on the left is a panel (the head or 'kepala') with a curving branch with elaborate blossoms and leaves on a blue background. Each area is defined by two borders--one a floral vine and the other a repeat of elaborate leaves. The major area has an additional inner border of a spidery floral vine.

Narrow ornamental borders edge the four sides. Batiked in two shades of blue, light brown, and green (yellow over green).
