Drawing, Bird Hunt with Owls
This is a Drawing. It was created by Jan van der Straet, called Stradanus. It is dated ca. 1596-1599 and we acquired it in 1901. Its medium is recto: pen and brown ink, brush and brown wash over black chalk on laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Binding evidence: Five irregularly spaced stitching holes run along the right edge of the sheet when viewing the recto. Blank space along this margin suggests that the sheet was bound into a sketchbook when the drawing was made.
It is credited Museum purchase through gift of various donors.
Its dimensions are
H x W: 7.7 × 11 cm (3 1/16 × 4 5/16 in.)
It has the following markings
Stamped on verso lining paper with mark for the Cooper Union Museum (L.457c or d).
It is inscribed
Verso, numbered in graphite in modern hand: “V65”
