Belt slide Slide, late 19th–early 20th century
This is a Slide. It is dated late 19th–early 20th century and we acquired it in 1929. Its medium is gold, iron, silver, copper. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
The Japanese tradition of inlaying gold, silver, and copper in iron was developed by sword-makers for the decoration of sword mounts and guards. Japanese ornaments, with its naturalistic motfis and unusual perspectives , made a great impact on European and American design of the late nineteenth century. (Jewelry 1989-90)
