Teapot Teapot

This is a teapot. It is dated ca. 1838 and we acquired it in 1980. Its medium is silver, gold, wood. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Arthur Ross. It is credited Gift of Arthur Ross.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 17.3 × 25.2 × 10.8 cm (6 13/16 × 9 15/16 × 4 1/4 in.)

It has the following markings

On underside of teapot: [1] “G”, star, “A”, over “B” within a lozenge, impressed (maker’s mark) [2] Michelangelo head facing right with “1” in an octagon, impressed (standard mark, French, 1819–1838). [3] A cricket within a lozenge, impressed (countermark, French, 1819-1838) On the base edge of the teapot: [1] Cérès head in circle, impressed (guarantee mark, French, 1819–1838) [2] Giraffe’s head, impressed (guarantee mark, 1838) On the underside of lid: [1] Michelangelo head facing right with “1” in an octagon, impressed (standard mark, French, 1819–1838). On the side of the lid: [1] Cérès head in circle, impressed (guarantee mark, French, 1819–1838) On the top of lid: [1] Giraffe’s head, impressed (guarantee mark, 1838)
