Sidewall, Cord #1

It was designed by Petra Blaisse and made by Wolf-Gordon Inc.. It is dated 2003 and we acquired it in 2004. Its medium is rotogravure-printed vinyl. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

Cord #1 is part of the Touch line, designed by Petra Blaisse. Blaisse is an Amsterdam-based landscape and textile designer. In 1987, she began working as a freelance exhibition designer. In 1991, she opened her own design office, Inside Outside. Blaisse became known for her successful merging of interior and exterior architectural space. She gained international acclaim for projects across Europe and the United States, which include liquid-gold drapes for the Netherlands Dance Theatre in The Hague, curtain-as-walls for the Mick Jagger Centre near London, and pleated walls for the VIP department in the Prada store in New York City. Blaisse has also received recognition for her landscape work.
The Touch line of wallcoverings was produced for the contract market. They are all printed on industrial-strength vinyl. The museum does not usually collect contract wallcoverings as they tend to be very conservative. This line, however, represents a new approach for contract wallcoverings and would be a welcome addition to the collection.
