Corvus Corax Teapot And Lid
This is a Teapot and lid. It is dated 1982 and we acquired it in 1984. Its medium is glazed molded porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
In 1981, Matteo Thun and Ettore Sottsass, among others, co-founded the Italian design collective Memphis, also one of the most important design movements of the 1980s known for its colorful, playful, postmodern aesthetic. Thun’s Corvus Corax teapot is an example of the exuberant style, toy-like with its geometric shapes, bursts of orange-red feet and lid, and black speckle-patterned decoration. With its exaggerated, elongated, grey ribbed handle and curved iridescent grey spout, this teapot would not look out of place in Alice’s Wonderland.
It is credited Museum purchase from General Acquisition Endowment.
Its dimensions are
H x W: 21.3 x 35.6 cm (8 3/8 in. x 14 in.)
It has the following markings
On underside: Impressed with firm’s mark; signed: “THUN SARRI 1982 P.A. II A S”
