Padova Neckpiece

This is a Neckpiece. It was designed by Maria Hees. It is dated 1985 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is stained, laminated, bent, sanded, and varnished birchwood. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This bentwood neckpiece is an elegant curvilinear form that sits gently on the wearer’s neck and shoulders. The striations of the layers accentuate the form against the body, and underscore the artist’s sophisticated and transformative use of wood.

This object was donated by Susan Lewin. It is credited The Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 22 × 24.5 × 5.6 cm (8 11/16 × 9 5/8 × 2 3/16 in.)

It has the following markings

On underside: 2 paper labels: "MH 241"; "MHS / 2C / 320"
