Sidewall, 1922–30
This is a sidewall. It is dated 1922–30 and we acquired it in 1930. Its medium is machine-printed on paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
This art-deco style wallcovering was first illustrated in the March 1930 edition of House Beautiful in an advertisement for its importer, W.H.S. Lloyd Co., a significant importer of English, French, and Japanese wall hangings. This wallpaper is a fine example of the French modern movement and its title literally translates into the “Modern Bird”. The stylized foliage, the animated birds and the choice of vibrant colors, enhanced by metallic gold pigment, combine to show off the appeal of art deco.
