Painter, engraver, and designer Etienne de Lavallée-Poussin was a student of Jean-Baptiste Descamps (1715-1791) at the Académie des Arts du Dessin in Rouen before 1755, and later studied with Jean-Baptiste Marie Pierre (1713-1789) in Paris. He was the winner of the Prix de Rome in 1759
