Janice Arnold (American, b. 1953) is an artist whose work expands the boundaries of felt-making. She has traveled throughout Central Asia and Mongolia studying the deeply-rooted felting traditions of nomadic peoples, and has transformed those traditions in her own studio, developing techniques that incorporate a variety of raw natural materials. She has created immersive environments and custom handmade felts for clients such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Cirque du Soleil, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Disney Corporation, LA Opera, Universal Pictures, and Wieden + Kennedy. She also lectures and frequently leads community-building felting events that bring people together around the act of communal making. She recently created an in-depth exhibition at San Francisco’s Museum of Craft and Design titled FELT DeCoded | WOOL: Nature’s Technology.
