Viola S. Dimmitt
Viola S. Dimmitt (American, 1893–1978) was a young, widowed mother and skilled home sewer living in Los Angeles, California during the 1920s. She honed her talents at a local housedress company before becoming a professional, custom seamstress serving a growing clientele of Hollywood actresses. Dimmitt took advantage of opportunities to engage with the film industry, offering clothing and fittings for movie premieres, photo calls, and publicity shoots. Quick to understand the growing influence of Hollywood glamour, Dimmitt was one of the first local designers to offer evening and wedding gowns.
