Freddy Johnson is an example of a talented jazz pianist largely forgotten by the majority of jazz fans. Like fellow American musician Sidney Bechet, Johnson spent the 1930s performing in Europe. Before heading to Europe, Johnson worked with Elmer Snowden—from the Washingtonians with Duke Ellington— and Noble Sissle, among others.
