Darning Sampler (England)

This is a Darning sampler. It was embroidered by Esther Lucas and student at Ackworth School. It is dated 1785 and we acquired it in 1976. Its medium is silk embroidery on cotton foundation and its technique is running (pattern darning) and cross stitch on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Unknown. It is credited Gift of Anonymous Donor from the Fraser/Martin Collection.
