Bound Print, Rocaille Ornament Design
This is a Bound Print. It was designed by Alexis Peyrotte and print maker: Gabriel Huquier and published by Gabriel Huquier. It is dated 1749-61 and we acquired it in 1920. Its medium is etching on laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
The meandering bands of shell-inspired decoration, which intermittently sprout flourishes resembling bird feathers, are close cousins to rocaille ornament in Alexis Peyrotte’s print series Premier…Seconde partie de divers Ornements.
