Bound Print, Rocaille Ornament Design

This is a Bound Print. It was designed by Alexis Peyrotte and print maker: Gabriel Huquier and published by Gabriel Huquier. It is dated 1749-61 and we acquired it in 1920. Its medium is etching on laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.


The meandering bands of shell-inspired decoration, which intermittently sprout flourishes resembling bird feathers, are close cousins to rocaille ornament in Alexis Peyrotte’s print series Premier…Seconde partie de divers Ornements.

This object was donated by Advisory Council. It is credited Purchased for the Museum by the Advisory Council.
